POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Kreative Kids operates Monday through Friday from 7:30am until 5:30pm. See “tuition” section for exception hours. See “snow days and holidays” section for exception days.

Visit Us

Kreative Kids recommends that your family visit the facility with your child to meet the teacher, tour the facility, and discuss any questions you may have. We are sure that one visit to our facility will make evident to you the higher standard that we hold at Kreative Kids. This visit will help to introduce your child to the Kreative Kids setting and help to put your mind at ease, before deciding which preschool is best for your child.

Admission Requirements

Kreative Kids requires the following for admission.

1. Age – The child must be 18 months to 5 years old.
2. Special Needs Children – We want to enroll all children, if possible. Sometimes, we may not be qualified to give your child the attention needed. Like you, we want what is best for your child and we may not be able to provide what is needed. We would be glad to consult with you or a specialist in the field of medicine or special education.
3. Application – Parents must complete an application and pay a $20.00 fee. This puts your child’s name on the waiting list.
4. Contract – Once accepted, parents must sign a contract stating that they understand and will abide by all policies.
5. Birth Certificate – Parents must provide a copy of the child’s birth certificate.
6. Physical and Shot Record – Parents must provide proof of a medical physical within 2 months prior to enrollment, or 1 month after, and proof that the child’s medical immunization record is current. Parents are responsible for physical fees.
7. Photo Release – This form allows you to decide is you consent to the display of your child’s image and/or first name. These may be used to create books or videos to distribute among parents.
8. Weather Waiver – This waiver releases Kreative Kids from any responsibility for any accidents that may occur that are caused by weather (ex: snow, ice, etc.). Kreative Kids is one of the only preschools that will accept children during bad weather. To insure that this is available in the future, you must agree to accept liability if you decide to bring your child during bad weather.
9. Emergency Medical Transportation and Authorization – Our staff is trained in first aid and CPR, but sometimes an emergency is beyond the expertise of our staff. This form explains the emergency procedures used and gives you the opportunity to authorize Kreative Kids to transport and/or have your child treated if you are unreachable during an emergency. This ensures that your child will be well cared for, even if you are unable to be there right away. We will also ask you to provide us with the names of other emergency contact people. Parents will be responsible for all medical care fees.

Material Requirements

Kreative Kids requires that you provide the following.

1. Change of Clothing – All children must have a change of clothing kept at Kreative Kids. This change of clothes is needed in case of accident, spill, or sickness and should include clean underclothing, shirt, pants, socks, and shoes (or slippers). All children have accidents and we want to ensure that your child is as comfortable as possible. We will notify you if the change of clothes needs to be replaced due to use. After withdrawal, the clothes will be returned to you, but not kept for a period exceeding 30 days.
2. Nap Mat – All children must have a foldable nap mat. The state requires that each child have his or her own mat. The staff of Kreative Kids will clean each mat once a week, or more often, if needed. We will label the mat with the child’s name using a permanent marker. Small blankets or small pillows are optional, and may be kept at Kreative Kids, but parents will be responsible for laundering them. After withdrawal, the mat and any bedding will be returned to you, but not kept for a period exceeding 30 days.Mats must be purchased from Kreative Kids for $18.00, prior to your child's enrollment.
3. Lunch and Snack – All children must pack a healthy lunch . Kreative Kids will provide 2 healthy snacks per day. Due to supervision needs there is no one available at Kreative Kids to provide a lunch. We feel that no one knows your child’s tastes like you do. Packing a lunch ensures that your child will have a lunch he or she enjoys every day. Please ensure that your child’s lunch is healthy (meeting the state’s standards) and clearly labeled. We will have access to a microwave and would be happy to heat soup, etc. Please notify us, in writing, of any food allergies as we occasionally provide the students with special snacks. We do keep food on hand in case a child forgets his or her lunch or the lunch is ruined by a thermos leak. We will also have water available should your child be thirsty other than at lunch or snack times.

Tuition Fees

1. Two weeks tuition is due prior to attending. This fee will be used to reserve your child’s seat and to cover the two weeks notice you give Kreative Kids before withdrawal. It will be kept if you withdraw your child without two weeks notice, or, if after warning, your child’s enrollment is terminated by Kreative Kids.
2. Tuition fees are due by Monday of each week. Payments made Wednesday through Friday are considered late and a late fee of $20.00 will apply. All fees must be paid by Friday in order to return your child to school on Monday.
3. There is no discount for closings due to weather or holidays. If your child misses a full week due to sickness or vacation, there is still no discount.
4. Children should not be dropped off before 7:30am and need to be picked up by 5:30pm. Parents will be charged a late fee of $20.00 at 5:30pm and $20.00 per 30 minutes after that.
5. There may be times when Kreative Kids will ask for additional funds for a special program or field trip.

Arrivals and Departures

All children must be brought in and picked up by an authorized adult. Please do not send a brother or sister to drop off or pick up a child. Please do not simply drop a child off, as there may be something about which we need to speak. We will ask that you sign your child in and out. This policy ensures that your child will always be in caring hands. Please be prompt with both arrivals and departures, as extra fees will be applied in the event of tardiness.

Authorization to Pick Up Children

Kreative Kids must be notified if anyone other than an individual authorized on the application form is to pick up your child. Your child will not be released if we are not notified. We may ask to see the driver’s license of anyone picking up your child, so be sure to inform those people of this policy so they may be prepared. You also have the right to list people you do not wish to have contact with your child.

Snow Days and Holidays

Kreative Kids will make every effort to open. If you have signed a weather waiver, you are welcome to bring your child on bad weather days. If we should be forced to close, as in the case of ice, we will list our closing or delay on WDBL 7. If you have not signed a weather waiver you should not bring your child to school if Bedford County Public Schools is closed or delayed. Kreative Kids will be closed New Year's Day, Easter Monday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday After Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve. A replacement day may be taken for holidays that fall on a weekend. Any other days that Kreative Kids may need to be closed will be announced at least a week ahead of time and arrangements for a substitute provider will be made whenever possible. The staff of Kreative Kids reserves the right to close for a week of vacation. This week will be tuition free.

Sickness

In accordance with state standards, any child showing signs of illness will be isolated in a quiet, restful area and the parent or guardian will be notified immediately. The center director will determine if the child will need to be picked up. Symptoms which will require your child be picked up are: fever over 101 F, rash, eye infection, diarrhea, or vomiting. If your child is sick in the morning, please do not send him or her to school, as children in this age group are highly susceptible to illnesses.

Medication

Kreative Kids will be glad to dispense medications. Medications must be clearly labeled with the name of the child and the medication. It must be accompanied by a Medication Authorization Form signed by the parent explaining the dosage, schedule, duration, directions, and reasons and giving permission for Kreative Kids to dispense it according to those directions. If a medication is to be administered for a duration exceeding 10 weekdays, a physician will need to complete this form and sign it along with the parents. We keep a Medicine Administration Record which we use to record the date, dose, and time of each administration. All medicine is locked up and out of the reach of children.

Address or Phone Changes

Please notify Kreative Kids, in writing, immediately if you should change your home address, home phone number, cell phone number, work place, work place address, or work phone number. If there is an emergency, we need to be able to contact you immediately. If both parents are unavailable to leave work in case of an emergency, you need to leave written permission for us to release your child to an emergency contact person.

Communication

There will be frequent verbal and written communication. Kreative Kids is dedicated to working with parents to provide the best education possible and to keep parents informed of upcoming events and activities. Please feel free to contact us, at any time, with questions or comments. We welcome suggestions, concerns, and compliments. You will receive frequent notice of upcoming studies or special “from home” requests, such as wearing something green on a color day. These requests are optional, but will help your child retain such concepts and participation is greatly appreciated.

Special Occasions

Please notify Kreative Kids ahead of time if you wish to bring a special treat, guest, or pet to share with the class.

Toys From Home

Kreative Kids asks that toys from home be limited to show and tell days. Please remember that space is very limited and you are asked to not bring large toys. Toys that are or appear harmful to other children are not permitted. Examples would include plastic knives, swords, toy guns, shooting toys, and flying toys. If there is a problem with a toy, we may put it away until time to go home. Kreative Kids is not responsible for any lost or damaged personal belongings or valuables.

Staff Development and Training

Kreative Kids is owned and operated by a state licensed child care provider. All staff is CPR and first aid certified. Our staff must have a criminal background check, central registry report from the Virginia Department of Social Services, and a Tuberculosis test every two years. Annual training is required of all staff.

Discipline

Our goal at Kreative Kids is to help each child by guiding behavior and helping children to learn acceptable behavior. We believe all children need to know what is acceptable behavior and what is unacceptable. This learning experience will be firm, but done with love, kindness, and understanding. We want children to respect themselves, their peers, their teachers, and also the property of others. We want children to learn in a positive way. We first will try to talk, reason, or redirect the child. At times, we may ask the child to move to another location without punishment. If all else fails, we may ask the child to sit and think for a few minutes.

Acceptable Forms of Discipline
Talk to the child and reason it out. This is to help the child learn to solve problems.
Redirect the child to another area of the room or a more acceptable activity.
Praise for appropriate behavior.
Time out to regroup (Never to exceed five minutes, unless contingent on a behavior, such as an apology.
Lose a privilege until appropriate behavior resumes.
A toy may be removed until the end of the day if it is being used inappropriately.
A note sent home.
A conference with parents or guardians.
A child will be carefully physically restrained only if the safety of the child or others is in jeopardy and only until the child resumes control.
Termination of a child’s enrollment – If, working together, we can’t get a child to return to behavior that is not threatening to other students or staff.

Unacceptable Forms of Discipline
Physical punishments, such as shaking, spanking, kicking, pinching, pulling a child’s arm or leg, forcing a child to assume an uncomfortable position, etc.
Forced Exercise
Binding or placing the child in a confined space.
Placing the child outside the sight or hearing of a caregiver.
Force feeding or withholding food.
Verbal abuse, such as threats, belittling remarks, or profanity.

Withdrawing Your Child From Enrollment

Kreative Kids requires two weeks notice to withdraw your child from enrollment. This notice must be in writing. The two weeks tuition registration fee will be kept if a child is removed without proper notice. Personal items will be returned to you, but will not be kept for more than 30 days.

Termination of a Child’s Enrollment by Kreative Kids

If we feel that Kreative Kids is no longer able to meet your child’s needs, you will be given two weeks notice prior to termination. If we should have a serious concern, we reserve the right to dismiss your child without notice, and without refund of the two weeks notice fee. We will try everything possible to make sure your child will fit into our program. We will certainly talk to parents prior to termination.

Injury or Accident Report
Try as we may, not all accidents are avoidable. First aid or CPR will be applied when needed. The parent will be notified immediately if the injury may be serious or at the end of the day if it is not. We reserve the right to call EMS services if we cannot contact the parent immediately. Kreative Kids keeps records of all injuries or accidents.

Playground Safety

Children are constantly and carefully supervised, this includes on the playground. Outside play is part of our program. Children are always within sight and sound. We are always watching to be sure that children’s shoes are tied. We do not allow children to climb with things in their hands, as both hands are needed for this activity. Children are instructed on safe play, such as playground rules and taking turns.
