5/7/08- Trip To Boonsboro Animal Hospital

Today we continued learning about community helpers with a trip to Boonsboro Animal Hospital. When we arrived we met our tour guide, Dr. Susan McConnell.

Our first stop was an exam room.

She showed us how she checks the heartbeat of animals
S
Maxx and Prentiss even got to listen.

Next she showed us how she checks their eyes and ears...

Then she told us she is actually a dentist for the animals too and checks their teeth.

We got to watch her take blood from her patient, just like when we go for a check up, except we only get a finger stick...
Then she took her temperature... we couldn't see exactly how, but we watched the numbers flash on the screen.
Next she showed us some x-rays of a little poodle who broke her leg and had to be in a cast for 4 months...

Then she explained to us about teeth differences in cats and dogs...

We also got to see a table that goes up and down, that is used for bigger animals that can't be picked up...

Kelly and Cody got a ride up!
Then we were off to the operating room...
She showed us the machines that animals are hooked up to during an operation.

She then showed us some of her tools she uses during an operation.

After our tour we got to pet Queenie, our model patient....

And we each got a coloring book and sticker to take home!
When we arrived back at school we lined up for a class picture... THANKS to everyone at Boonsboro Animal Hospital for allowing us to come and tour your hospital~ Hugs from all your new friends at Kreative Kids!
